what to wear for Valentine's Day

Can you believe Valentine’s Day is THIS WEEK? So excited for heart-shaped pizza and extra hugs on Thursday! In the meantime, we spent the day with Chicago style blogger Lauren @thelilliebag to find out what she’s wearing and loving now, her favorite hair products for a quick date-night refresh and how she sneaks some lovin’ into her busy schedule.

6 A.M. My first thought when I wake up is COFFEE. My husband makes a cup for me whenever he’s home, and I swear it always tastes better when he does! I’m a creature of habit, so I’ll eat the same protein shake and cereal every day. There’s something comforting about a consistent morning routine!

8 A.M.  We look forward to Valentine’s Day in our house—who doesn’t love love?! Every year we bake some easy treats (I’m talking pre-cut packaged cookie dough), so I’ll slip a frosted cookie or pink cupcake into my girls’ lunches before we head to the bus stop!

This hoodie is cute, comfy and easy—red but not too red and perfect for Valentine’s Day at home, helping out at my girls’ classroom parties or just a regular weekend.

Shop the look: Chaser Hoodie | Sol Angeles Tee | Sanctuary Chinos | Lauren is wearing size S tops and size 27 pants.

12 P.M.  In addition to being a full-time mom, wife and blogger, I work two days a week as a hairstylist. I LOVE helping others look and feel great, but the best part of the job is the relationships I’ve developed with clients and coworkers who have become friends.

3 P.M.   Depending on the day, I might see clients at the salon all day, shoot looks for my blog or have a meeting somewhere in the city. Working out is a stress reliever for me, so I do an Orange Theory class every other day—hurts so good!

I love this look for the days I have a lot of different things going on and need to be pulled together and comfortable. The silky top is great for work and the camo Chinos keep it fun and casual.

Shop the look: David Lerner Blouse | Sanctuary Chinos | Vince Camuto Loafers | Lauren is wearing size S top, size 27 pants and size 8 shoes.

6 P.M.    Most weeknights my husband and I cook easy dinners at home, but we’re heading to Florida this week—first time on a plane for the girls! So we’ll do family Valentine’s Day on the beach, then Paul and I will celebrate with takeout and a nice bottle of wine when we’re back in Chicago.

8 P.M. After I put the girls to bed and clean up the house, I check emails while catching up on blog work and my shows! Lately I’ve been doing hydrating face masks almost every night—winter is so hard on my skin, and it’s a little way to show myself some love after a long day!

I love a jacket and heels for a night out. This stretchy moto is perfect for Galentine’s Day with the girls and a nicer dinner with my hubby—and the yellow shoes give the whole look a fun edge.

Shop the look: Marrakech Moto Jacket | Allison Joy Cami | Hudson Barbara Ankle Skinny Jeans | Kenneth Cole Pumps | Lauren is wearing size S tops, size 27 jeans and size 8 shoes.

Hot date this week? Lauren shares how to pump up your hair pre-Valentine’s Day plans.

  1. Refresh your hair at the roots with Batiste Dry Shampoo.
  2. Spritz small sections of your hair with Davines This is Strong Hairspray (the best—I swear by it), then wrap those sections around a larger barrel curling iron.
  3. Spray again after curling and use your fingers to tousle hair for an undone look. Leave your hair down or throw it up into a full pony.
  4. If you have time, prep and nourish hair earlier in the week with this mask.
